The man who knows no death

Subhas Chandra Bose born on January 23, 1897 generally known as Netaji was one of the most prominent and highly respected leaders of the Indian independence movement against the British Raj. Though Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru have garnered much of the credit for successful culmination of Indian freedom struggle, the contribution of Subash Chandra Bose is no less. He has been denied his rightful place in the annals of Indian history. He founded Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) to overthrow British Empire from India and came to acquire legendary status among Indian masses. Officially, Bose died in a plane crash over Taiwan, while flying to Tokyo on 18 August 1945. However, his body was never recovered, and many theories have been put forward concerning his possible survival. One such claim is that Bose actually died in Siberia, while in Soviet captivity. Several committees have been set up by the Government of India to probe into this matter.

A few inspiring words from his speech:
I have said that today is the proudest day of my life. For an enslaved people, there can be no greater pride, no higher honour, than to be the first soldier in the army of liberation. But this honour carries with it a corresponding responsibility and I am deeply conscious of it. I assure you that I shall be with you in darkness and in sunshine, in sorrow and in joy, in suffering and in victory. For the present, I can offer you nothing except hunger, thirst, privation, forced marches and death. But if you follow me in life and in death, as I am confident you will, I shall lead you to victory and freedom. It does not matter who among us will live to see India free. It is enough that India shall be free and that we shall give our all to make her free. May God now bless our Army and grant us victory in the coming fight !

The World's only Seven-Star Hotel!

The Burj Al Arab is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Burj Al Arab is managed by the Jumeirah Group. At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat. Construction of Burj Al Arab began in 1994. It was built to resemble the sail of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel. Two "wings" spread in a V to form a vast "mast", while the space between them is enclosed in a massive atrium. The hotel cost $650 million to build.

Take a look at the Hotel:

Some of its features:
Several features of the hotel required complex engineering feats to achieve. The hotel rests on an artificial island constructed 280 meters offshore. To secure a foundation, the builders drove 230 40-meter long concrete piles into the sand. The foundation is held in place not by bedrock, but by the friction of the sand and silt along the length of the piles. It took three years to reclaim the land from the sea, but less than three years to construct the building itself. The building contains over 70,000 cubic meters of concrete and 9,000 tons of steel.
Burj Al Arab characterizes itself as the world's only "7-star" property, a designation considered by travel professionals to be hyperbole. All major travel guides and hotel rating systems have a 5-star maximum, which some hotels attempt to out-do by ascribing themselves "6-star" status. Yet according to the Burj Al Arab's official site, the hotel is a "5-star deluxe hotel". It is the world's tallest structure with a membrane façade and the world's tallest hotel (not including buildings with mixed use) and was the first 5-star hotel to surpass 1,000 ft (305 m) in height.

The flying Wonder!!!

The Concorde was a supersonic passenger airliner or supersonic transport (SST). It was a product of an Anglo-French government treaty, combining the manufacturing efforts of Aérospatiale and British Aircraft Corporation. First flown in 1969, piloted by André Turcat, Concorde service commenced in 1976 and continued for 27 years. Concorde also set many other records, including the official FAI "Westbound Around The World" and "Eastbound Around the World" world air speed records. As a result of the type's only crash on 25 July 2000, world economic effects arising from the 9/11 attacks, and other factors, operations ceased on 24 October 2003. The last "retirement" flight occurred on 26 November that year.

Concorde pioneered a number of technologies:

For high speed and optimisation of flight:

* Double-delta (ogee/ogival) shaped wings
* Variable inlet ramps
* Supercruise capability
* Thrust-by-wire engines, predecessor of today's FADEC-controlled engines
* Droop-nose section for improved visibility in landing

For weight-saving and enhanced performance:

* Mach 2.04 (~2,200 km/h - 1350 mph) cruising speed for optimum fuel consumption (supersonic drag minimum, although turbojet engines are more efficient at high speed)
* Mainly aluminium construction for low weight and relatively conventional manufacture (higher speeds would have ruled out aluminium)
* Full-regime autopilot and autothrottle allowing "hands off" control of the aircraft from climbout to landing
* Fully electrically controlled analogue fly-by-wire flight controls systems
* Multifunction flight control surfaces
* High-pressure hydraulic system of 28 MPa (4,000 lbf/in²) for lighter hydraulic systems components
* Fully electrically controlled analogue brake-by-wire system
* Pitch trim by shifting fuel around the fuselage for centre-of-gravity control
* Parts milled from single alloy billet reducing the part-number count
* Lack of Auxiliary power unit (Relying on the fact that Concorde will be used for premium services to big airports, where a ground air start cart would be readily available)
* Flush fitting lights

Jawaharlal Nehru with contemporary greats

Jawaharlal Nehru was the leader of the socialist wing of the Indian National Congress during and after India's struggle for independence from the British Empire. He became the first Prime Minister of India at independence on August 15, 1947, holding the office until his death. He was also a key figure in international politics in the post-war period (in which he was considered the leader of third world interests) and patriarch of the Nehru-Gandhi family, one of the most influential forces in Indian politics. Here is the video of Nehru along with the prominent leaders of his time.

"Saint of the Gutters"

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, in the former Yugoslavia, was the youngest of three children. In her teens, Agnes became a member of a youth group in her local pairsh called Sodality. Through her involvement with their activities guided by a Jesuit priest, Agnes became interested in missionaries. At age 17, she responded to her first call of a vocation as a Catholic missionary nun. She joined an Irish order, the Sisters of Loretto, a community known for their missionary work in India. When she took her vows as a Sister of Loretto, she chose the name Teresa after Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.
Mother Teresa started with a school in the slums to teach the children of the poor. She also learned basic medicine and went into the homes of the sick to treat them. In 1949, some of her former pupils joined her. They found men, women, and children dying on the streets who were rejected by local hospitals. The group rented a room so they could care for helpless people otherwise condemned to die in the gutter. In 1950, the group was established by the Church as a Diocesan Congregation of the Calcutta Diocese. It was known as the Missionaries of Charity.

Her words:
"Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy with all you meet especially your family. Be holy – let us pray."

"I once picked up a woman from a garbage dump and she was burning with fever; she was in her last days and her only lament was: ‘My son did this to me.’ I begged her: You must forgive your son. In a moment of madness, when he was not himself, he did a thing he regrets. Be a mother to him, forgive him. It took me a long time to make her say: ‘I forgive my son.’ Just before she died in my arms, she was able to say that with a real forgiveness. She was not concerned that she was dying. The breaking of the heart was that her son did not want her. This is something you and I can understand."

"When once a chairman of a multinational company came to see me, to offer me a property in Bombay, he first asked: ‘Mother, how do you manage your budget?" I asked him who had sent him here. He replied: ‘I felt an urge inside me.’ I said: other people like you come to see me and say the same. It was clear God sent you, Mr. A, as He sends Mr. X, Mrs. Y, Miss Z, and they provide the material means we need for our work. The grace of God is what moved you. You are my budget. God sees to our needs, as Jesus promised. I accepted the property he gave and named it Asha Dan (Gift of Hope).

"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."

Reproduced with permission from
Gowtham

To name few of the many things he was responsible for:

1. Architect of the Krishnarajasagara dam - or KRS or Brindavan gardens (PS: Unfortunately the govt officials of today are busy swallowing money and defaming the beautiful gardens) One of the biggest dams in India which irrigates a hundred and twenty thousand acres of land.
2. Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works - as its Chairman he rescued it from becoming extinct.
3. Mysore Sandal Oil Factory and the Mysore soap factory
4. Mysore University - Sir M.V.'s question was "If Australia and Canada could have universitites of their own for less than a million population, cannot Mysore with a population of not less that 60 lakhs have a University of its own?" (PS: Today more and more colleges are being started, but for a different reason - to make MONEY!)
5. State Bank of Mysore (it was first named The Bank of Mysore)
6. Public libraries in Mysore and Bangalore
7. Encouraging girls to attend school.
8. Mysore Chamber of Commerce
9. Kannada Sahitya Parishad or the Kannada Literary Academy
10. Sri Jayachamarajendra Occupational Institute, Bangalore - funded by the ENTIRE money [Rs 2 lacs] he earned from rescuing Bhadravati Iron Works (Modern Politicians - please learn something from Sir M.V.)

What if Gandhi played baseball in US

Mahatma Gandhi played baseball during a top secret visit to the USA in 1933—hold on! this is not historical fact but the fiction of a film.

Gandhi at the Bat shows the Mahatma playing for the New York Yankees, but US President Franklin D Roosevelt ensures that the trip is kept secret in national interest. However, long after the visit, baseball historians are intrigued by stories about a mysterious pinch hitter.

Speaking on Social Inequality in India...

"Whenever I come to know of the problem of communalism and social inequality, I vividly recollect one incident at Rameswaram Elementary School, I was in the fifth standard. I always used to sit in the front row along with my close friend Ramaswamy. A new teacher had come to our class. The teacher could not comprehend a Brahmin boy and a Muslim boy sitting together. In accordance with the social ranking as perceived by the new teacher. I was asked to go and sit on the back bench. I felt very indignant and so did Ramaswamy. Even today I am living with the image imprinted on my subconscious mind of Ramaswamy crying in the class when I changed my seat to the rear row. When this incident was related to our respective father's traditional close friends, the teacher was summoned and told by them that what he had done was a snake's work. Strong convictions of our parents reformed the teacher half a century ago." - Dr A P J Abdul Kalam

I thought there were only 6 or 7...

I was wrong. There are 11 ways to get out in Cricket. The last four are amusing.

I think these are the weirdest dismissals...

Yes... Never expected to be out like this. Especially those of Inzy and Symo.
You will really laugh at those...

You may not know this...

...because i too didn't know. I have been reading Eenadu for some 10 years or so. There were many newspapers established but they did not survive due to Eenadu. But there are also flaws in this newspaper. The new one 'Sakshi' have let out these. Interesting... Read them..

Some of their praises...

To start with politics...

Don't laugh at me but I have an ambition of joining Indian Politics. Yes, you read it correct. I want to become a Political leader. I derived my inspiration from two leaders who ruled and still are ruling A.P. Politics. Yes, you got them right. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu. I'm not crazy... I like both the ruling and opposition leaders.

Coming to Nara Chandrababu Naidu, ruling a state for 9 years is no simple thing. He was the one who took A.P. to the World and made Hyderabad appear on World map. His contributions to develop IT sector in A.P. helped many MNC companies to establish their capital in this state which provide high-salary jobs for young citizens. He actually had the ultimate control over the then NDA government at the center. Such was his influence on the country.
As for Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, I can say that today's congress government in A.P. is only through the rigorous efforts of him. The 'Paada Yatra' he undertook before the 2004 elections brought him tremendous popularity in the masses. The irrigation projects he introduced in the state yielded excellent results for agriculture in the state. The number of development schemes he started in the country contributed to increse the standards of living in the state. He is the one who regained the pride of congress party in the state after in went into a bad phase during the rule of TDP.
There arises a comparison as to which Person is better? After weighing the pros and cons of these two personalities, I may slightly tend to YSR not because of his work but the work he is doing in the given circumstances. CBN is the sole leader and ultimate name in TDP whereas YSR has many competitors in his own party. There is no resistance for CBN from his own party but YSR has many threads pulling him back in his own party. Moreover, when CBN was ruling, its main opposition was congress that too without any power. The left parties was not heard anwwhere. But in YSR's rule he is facing opposition from TDP, TRS and the left parties. CBN didnt have any pressure from the central govenrment. But YSR has the head-ache of satisfying his own party at the center. That is why I choose YSR over CBN.
